When asked the question “What does receiving the Grace Scholarship mean to your family?” My husband and I are overcome with emotion. We decided from early in our marriage, before we had children that we wanted to send them to our parish’s parochial school. However, the question remained, “How would we be able to afford it?” We are a one-income family. Then last spring we were directly affected by the downturn in the economy. My husband worked for years in the engineering and construction field, and his firm had several rounds of lay-offs. We simply were not financially stable enough to afford a private school’s tuition. We then began to explore the idea of homeschooling, but we had always hoped to send our children to St. Catherine’s. We turned to prayer. We knew that if it was God’s will that our child be at St. Catherine’s, He would make a way for us. When we first heard of the Grace Scholarship Program, we got out our checkbook and contributed what we could. We were thrilled at the aspect of this kind of scholarship fund being created, and excited about the doors that would be open to families like ours who otherwise would not be able to consider the private school option.
The scholarship was an answer to our prayers. We are filled with hope and joy at being able to send our child off to Kindergarten this August at a place we call our “second home”. Our family is so very grateful to all those who contributed to the scholarship fund, and we look forward to always doing what we can to support the fund as well. Thank you!
